BadBadNotGood

As far as I know, the Canadian collective BadBadNotGood started of doing pretty rad instrumental versions of various hip hop tunes such as THIS jazzy interpretation of A Tribe Called Quest's song Electric Relaxation or THIS tribute to Odd Future, earlier this year. As of late it seems the BBNG have started to make quite a buzz around themselves. Last week the trio posted some videos on their website jamming with Tyler, The Creator. Looking forward to see what will come from these Canadians in the future.

Listen to BBNG's take on some Nas and ODB cuts here:

BadBadNotGood - The World Is Yours/Brooklyn Zoo

"Jazz is something that's already happened, the reason you play jazz standards is old people know the melodies. So if you play a hip-hop song that people know, they can hear your version and appreciate what's happening. A young person doesn't give a fuck how you play 'Stella By Starlight.' - Matthew Tavares, BBNG

Washed Out

Amazing B-side to Amor Fati from one of my absolute favorites, Washed Out.

Washed Out - Call It Off

Bon Iver - Towers (Karma Kid Rerub)

Bon Iver - Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub)

Poolside

This is good. Partly because it's nice with a new treat from Poolside, but mainly because it offers a good reason to once again post Poolside's amazing cover of Neil Young's Harvest Moon.

Poolside - Take Me Home

Poolside - Harvest Moon

Holy Ghost!

I actually posted this video a few weeks back, but since the NYC-duo released a remix-EP this week, via DFA Records, I figured it would be appropriate with a little reminder.

“There were no trepidations about exposing our personal lives with this video. We literally handed over the archives in all their humiliating and sentimental glory.”

Youth Lagoon

Youth Lagoon - Daydream (Perfect Lines Remix)

Nice unofficial visuals to one of the best tracks, 17, from Youth Lagoon's critically acclaimed debut The Year Of Hibernation.

Class Actress

No huge difference between original song and this remix, however it's about time I post it. Quite suiting on a Saturday.

Class Actress - Weekend (Jason Kid Remix)

Amazing pulse in this one from brittish producer Luke Abbott. Can't think of a better soundtrack sitting on the train.

The Phenomenal Handclap Band

After not hearing anything from NY's finest, The Phenomenal Handclap Band for more than a year I was quite excited founding out they've just released a new single. Listen to Following, accompanied by the visuals to the soulful classic Baby from TPHB's self titled debut album. As a bonus you'll find the mean remix of Baby from the remix wizards Clock Opera.

DJ SOSUPERSAM MIXTAPE RELEASE

Being a control freak when it comes to music and playlists, the idea of mixtapes (continuous one-file-mixtapes that is) has a tendency to put me off. However, there are a bunch of great exceptions. Like this blend from Dj/blogger/fashionista Samantha Duenas, better known to music hunters as Sosupersam. With a convincing mix of favorite outfits such as Poolside, Toro Y Moi, Lykke Li, Little Dragon and many more it's just a matter of leaning back and enjoy this luscious medley.

Sosupersam - This Way Up

Lissi Dancefloor Disaster

Earlier this year, Swedish electro outfit  Lissi Dancefloor Disaster turned down a 31 000$ offer from McDonalds (for using LDD's music in their commercials). This morning the swedes from Uppsala released their latest EP, and they still seem to be doing everything right. Listen to the epic hometown anthem Uppsala and I Will Not from As We Plz - make sure not to miss LDD's rad remix of M.I.A.´s Pull Up The People. This might very well be the next big thing.

Jenny O

I'll just quote Valida on this super catchy song from Jenny O -

It’s the type of song that you will want to put on repeat and hum all day. The groove is irresistible, the melody is infectious, the lyrics are witty as they come, and there is a certain coyness to Jenny’s delivery that is so adorable you just want to smile the entire time. In my case, it made me want to do a remix.

Felix Laband

I'm really happy I stumbled into this guy. South African Felix Laband creates cinematic-esque, ambient chillout sounds in a smooth blend. To me, the artwork alone is worth the listening.

Felix Laband - Whistling In Tongues

Felix Laband - Rain Can

Washed Out

Just watched the fourth episode of How To Make It In America and realized I had to post this old favorite delivered by mr chillwave, Ernest Green, better known as Washed Out. The version that's featured in HTMIIA is actually a remix from RAC.

Washed Out - New Theory (RAC Remix)

Washed Out's debut Life Of Leisure is one of my all time favorites - you'll find the entire album here.

Justice - Hidden Track

I recently found out that Justice's latest creation, super-hyped Audio, Video, Disco ends with this simple, yet amazing organ driven hidden track.

Yuna

Listen to these sweet harmonies coming from 24 year old singer Yuna. Anyone else feeling the Sia-vibes on this track?

Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx

For some reason I never posted this stream of the brilliant We're New HereJamie xx's (from the xx) rework of the late, great Gil Scott-Heron's album I'm New Here. Many of you have probably heard it by now, and for those who haven't - enjoy it.

If you don't have the patience to listen through it all, make sure you don't miss the last track:

Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx - I'll Take Care Of You

The entire album is also available on Spotify here.

Breton

See the amazing visuals from emerging UK act Breton. Starting of as an experimental art/music collective some time ago, the four-piece outfit from London has created quite a buzz around themselves of late. Breton's debut album, Other Peoples Problems is due early next year.

Michael Kiwanuka

With influences from artists like Otis Redding and Van Morrisson, 23 year old Michael Kiwanuka has undoubtedly got me on the hook. Together with Maverick Sabre, Michael Kiwanuka brings great hope to the future of British soul. I've already posted Tell Me A Tale. Here it is again accompanied by the equally excellent I'm Getting Ready.

First Aid Kit

Absolutely amazing cover by First Aid Kit on Fever Ray's When I Grow Up.

Skinny Love

14 year old Birdy take on Bon Iver's Skinny Love and the result is truly amazing. With a little tweak from Northern Irish mixer Owsey the cover is given yet another facelift. Even though this mix, in my opinion, is lacking a bit tempo-wise at the middle part, it´s well worth sharing!

Sandro Perri

After having released more than ten albums under different monikers like Polmo Polpo and Glissandro 70, Sandro Perri is now back producing music under his real name. Today Perri released his latest creation - a seven-track LP called Impossible Spaces. The opening track, Changes, is like nothing I've ever heard before.

The Roots announce new release

Just yesterday The Roots announced the release date for their upcoming LP called Undun - due December 6th via Def Jam Records. Philly-drummer Questlove explains why this album is so different from their previous twelve albums.

“At this point in our career we’d like for our work to have a unifying theme, and an experiential quality. We’ve been intentionally making our albums shorter in length so that they can be experienced as a continuous work. The music is band-oriented with an eye on the moody cinematic. As a DJ, I am the King of playlists, but I don’t want our albums to feel like a playlist or a mixtape for that matter. We want to tell stories that work within the album format and we want the stories to be nuanced and useful to people. Undun is the story of this kid who becomes criminal, but he wasn’t born criminal. He’s not the nouveau exotic primitive bug-eyed gunrunner likeTupac’s character Bishop in Juice… he’s actually thoughtful and is neither victim nor hero. Just some kid who begins to order his world in a way that makes the most sense to him at a given moment… At the end of the day… isn’t that what we all do?”

Here is the first sample from Undun:
